Emmanuel Badaniatz Retreat, a Blessed Opportunity

On Saturday, 14 March, at 3pm, the leaders and youth had gathered in Emmanuel Church playground for their annual 2-day retreat. You could feel the excitement on their faces, many of whom were eagerly waiting for this day to arrive.
After taking care of the technical details, the leaders and the youth filled the 2 buses that were waiting to take us to Dhour el-Shweir, a beautiful place up in the mountains.


It was a rainy day, a fact we knew a day before. We thanked God and our chauffeurs for getting us to Dhour el-Shweir in safety.

We started the session with declaring the proper manners to be kept within the camp, then with reviewing the topics that we had discussed within the small groups from October till March. Then we had games and worship time. During the 2-day retreat, we chatted, socialized, played games, prayed, had quiet time with God, discussed in small groups and worshiped God.

The guest speaker was Mrs. Nancy Sagherian. She spoke to the youth about accepting Christ, by telling stories from the lives of the teens, and explained how the word abashkharoutyoun has started to have a different for many.


During the night, we played games that many enjoyed and also enjoyed the food and the internal heating system that kept us warm.

Sunday 2pm. We had our lunch and now it was time to leave Dhour el-Shweir and get back to our community and families and apply our decisions and encouraging each other to be faithful and trust in God.

This will be a retreat to remember indeed.

First Anniversary for the Daily Armenian Radio Program in Iraq

Dear brothers,

On ( 25. 2. 2009 ) we had a celebration of the first anniversary for the daily Armenian radio program which broadcasting in Armenian language every evening for 30 minutes, and below are photos of the Armenian evangelical church's radio team in Baghdad. We started broadcasting for the first time on ( 25. 2. 2008) with cooperation of radio station in one of the evangelical churches here in Baghdad, and this Armenian spiritual program, presented by the Armenian Evangelical Church in Baghdad is considered to be the first step in the history of Armenian people in Iraq, while there was not any kind of programs broadcasted in Armenian language ever in Iraq… and the people herein the picture surrounding the church's shepherd are volunteered to make and produce the spiritual programs under the Pastor's supervision.

«Պատանեկան Արձագանգ»ը Այսօր - Հարցազրոյց Վեր. Րաֆֆի Մսրլեանի Հետ

Ջ.- Կրնա՞ք կարճ պատմագրական մը տալ Պատանեկան Արձագանգին ծնունդին, առաքելութեան ու նպատակին մասին:
Վեր.- Պատանեկան Արձագանգը հիմնուեցաւ 1936 Դեկտեմբերին: Անոր հիմնադիրն է Վեր. Մանասէ Շնորհօքեան: Ան կը վարէ անոր պատասխանատու խմբագիրի պաշտօնը մինչեւ 1968: Անոր հիմնադրութեան պատճառը եւ նպատակը կը գտնենք անոր խօսքերուն մէջ: Ան իր խօսքը ուղղելով պատանիներուն կ՛ըսէ, «Պատանեկան Արձագանգը պիտի ըլլայ արձագանգը մեր զգացումներուն, ձգտումներուն եւ կարողութիւններուն: Ան պիտի ըլլայ նաեւ հաղորդակցութեան միջոց մը հայ պատանիներուն միջեւ: Ան կու գայ իրարմէ տեղեակ պահել մեզ, իրարու միացնել եւ մեր մէջ ճշմարիտ բարեկամութիւն եւ գործակցութիւն մշակել:» Հետեւաբար, վերոյիշեալ խօսքերը կը կազմեն Պատանեկան Արձագանգի նպատակը եւ առաքելութիւնը նաեւ այսօր 72 տարիներ ետք: Այս ամսաթերթը պիտի ջանայ հայ պատանիին տալ այլազան գիտելիքներ տարբեր մարզերու մէջ, եւ պիտի հանդիսանայ նաեւ բեմը ուր մեր պատանիները պիտի կարենան նաեւ իրենց գրական ստեղծագործութիւնները թուղթին յանձնել:

Ջ.- Ի՞նչ էին այն պատճառները որ Պատանեկան Արձագանգը լոյս չի տեսաւ անցնող 6 տարիներուն:
Վեր.- Դժբախտաբար եւ տարբեր պատճառներով, Պատանեկան Արձագանգը անցեալ 6 տարիներուն լոյս չի տեսաւ որպէս ամսաթերթ: Սակայն անոր 2003 – 04 – 05 տարիներուն յատուկ թիւը լոյց տեսաւ 2005 Յուլիսին: Պիտի չուզէի այստեղ անոր չհրատարակուելու պատճառներուն վերադառնալ, այլ կեդրոնանալ այն իրականութեան վրայ թէ Պատանեկան Արձագանգը դարձեալ կը հրատարակուի եւ ասիկա ինքնին դրական երեւոյթ մըն է արդէն մանկապատանեկան գրականութեան աշխարհին մէջ: Անշուշտ անոր հրատարակուելուն առիթով պէտք է շնորհակալութիւնով անդրադառնալ այն բոլոր անձերուն որոնք իրենց դրական ներդրումը կը բերէն յատկապէս աշխատակցութեամբ:

Ջ.- Ի՞նչ կ՛ուզէք ըսել այս վերադարձին մասին եւ այս նոր թիւին մասին:
Վեր.- Այս վերադարձը ինքնին ուրախ երեւոյթ մըն է եւ միեւնոյն ատեն մարտահրաւէր այն անձերուն որոնք գործօն բաժին ունին այս վերադարձին մէջ: Այս մէկը բոլորին կողմէ կը պահանջէ մեծ յանձնառութիւն եւ նուիրում:

Ջ.- Որքա՞ն դժուար է այսօր մանուկին ու պատանիին հայերէն թերթը ու գիրքը սիրցնելը:
Վեր.- Այսօր, համացանցի եւ հեռատեսիլի աշխարհին մէջ, անշուշտ դժուար է պատանիին թերթը եւ գիրքը սիրցնել: Հետեւաբար այս մէկը ինքնին մարտահրաւէր մըն է մեր առջեւ: Մենք գիտակից ենք որ կը յաջողինք երբ նիւթերը այժմէական կը դարձնենք եւ հետաքրքիր, սակայն նոյն ատեն պէտք ունինք ծնողքներուն եւ ուսուցիչներու գործակցութեան եւ քաջալերանքին, յատկապէս երբ իրենց զաւակները եւ աշակերտները կը քաջալերեն թերթին հետ ժամանակ անցնելու:

Ջ.- Ի՞նչ նորութիւն պիտի բերէ Պատանեկան Արձագանգը:
Վեր.- Պատնեկան Արձագանգի մեծագոյն նորութիւնը կը կայանայ անոր նիւթերու զանազանութեան մէջ, առաջին հերթին: Մեր տեսիլքն է որ ապագային կարենանք իւրաքանչիւր թիւի մէջ, էջէրէն բաժին մը գունաւոր հանել: Նաեւ մեր տեսիլքն է որ պատանիներու մէջ հաղորդակցութիւնը զօրացնել գործածելով համացանցը, ստեղծելով պատանիներուն էջը, ուր անոնք պիտի կարենան իրենց կարծիքները արտայայտել եւ նաեւ մեր տեսիլքն է ունենալ Պատանեկան Արձագանգի “Website”ի, ուր ընթերցողներ Միջին Արեւելքի եւ Արտասահմանի մէջ կարենան նաեւ ունենալ կարելիութիւնը զայն ընթերցելու:

Ջ.- Ի՞նչ կրնաք ըսել Պատանեկան Արձագանգի կարդացողներուն` գալիք թիւերուն մասին:
Վեր.- Առաջին հերթին գալիք թիւերուն համար մեր ծրագիրն է զայն հրատարակել 2 ամիսը անգամ մը եւ զայն հասցնել ընթերցողին ձեռքին կանուխէն: Անշուշտ աստիճանաբար պատանիներ պիտի կարենան տեսնել անոր զարգացումը եւ պատրաստ ենք միշտ առաջարկներու մտիկ ընել: Նաեւ պիտի ջանանք յաջորդ թիւերուն մէջ, վիճակագրական սերտողութիւններ ներկայացնել տարբեր նիւթերու նկատմամբ պատանիներու ունեցած կեցուածքներուն եւ դիրքորոշումներուն մասին:

Communication rights include preservation of endangered mother tongues

... WACC statement on International Mother Language Day - 21 February 2009

A mother tongue is the language a mother teaches her child. It is the umbilical cord linking that child to the community in which she or he grows up. As such, it is a verbal skin of identity, shaping the sounds used to express feelings, meanings, and relationships.



While mother tongue education and multilingualism are increasingly promoted around the world, languages are disappearing. UNESCO’s Atlas on Endangered Languages points out that “the past three hundred years have seen a dramatic increase in the death and disappearance of languages leading to the situation today in which 3,000 or more languages that are still spoken are endangered, seriously endangered, or dying.”

And according to the Living Tongues Institute, “Every two weeks the last fluent speaker of a language passes on and with him/her goes literally hundreds of generations of traditional knowledge encoded in these ancestral tongues. Nearly half of the world’s languages are likely to vanish in the next 100 years.” The globalization of the world’s economies and the rapid growth of digital communications have speeded up that process.

Mother tongues of cultural minorities have always faced challenges. Doreen Spence, a Cree elder, laments the repression of her mother tongue at church-run residential schools in Canada as an assault on her culture, heritage and way of life: “The essence of Mother Tongue is critical: It is the essence of who we are. It is our identity. It is the way we express our Spirit. It is synonymous with our Culture and Traditions.”

Spence notes that, “Our legends and stories are handed down from the beginning of time through generations by our Mother Tongue. Our relationships with all living beings and with one another and the environment, our songs, chants, and prayers cannot be translated into any other language. They come from the Heart and Soul… My Grandmother said if you deny your language it is like putting your Spirit in a jar and putting a lid on the jar. Your Spirit will suffocate – it will die. This is a serious crime. All the money in the world cannot heal your Spirit.”

Pitjantjatjara is an Indigenous language spoken in Central Australia. Singer Makinti Minutjukur says that Pitjantjatjara, her mother tongue, represents her tribe’s history, land and identity. “Our language is very important to us and at the moment, it’s strong and we wish to keep it this way for our grandchildren and all the people that come after us.”

Vietnamese language expert Bui Kim Xuyen agrees. “If ethnic minorities lose their own language and script they lose an important tool of communication and also an important way of confirming their existence and of distinguishing themselves from other ethnicities.”

WACC has long been committed to projects and activities that facilitate the use and preservation of mother tongues in different regions of the world. In the Philippines, WACC supported the Dumagat people to provide training workshops and to establish a community-owned school where students could learn the Dumagat language and culture.

In Mexico and Bolivia, WACC helped meet the needs of Mixe and Aymara women by supporting communication training and skills development in their own languages. And in Chile, WACC was one of the first organisations to support the production of teaching materials for young people in Mapudungun, the language of the Mapuche people.

On International Mother Language Day, WACC calls on policy-makers at all levels to protect endangered mother tongues and to encourage their use. Such actions increase the chances of survival for cultural minorities and the unique perceptions and understandings they represent, ensuring cultural diversity and affirming human dignity.

Հինգշաբթի, 19 մարտ 2009-ին, «Հապթուր» պանդոկին մէջ տեղի պիտի ունենայ Հայկազեան համալսարանի նոր շէնքի կառուցման յատկացուած հանգանակութեան ճաշկերոյթը։ Այդ առիթով «Ազդակ» հարցազրոյց մը ունեցաւ համալսարանի հանրային կապերու գրասենեակի տնօրէն Միրա Եարտըմեանի հետ։ Ան նկատել տուաւ, որ համալսարանի ուսանողութեան թիւը աստիճանաբար կը բարձրանայ, նաեւ՝ պաշտօնէութեան եւ դասախօսական կազմին թիւը. հետեւաբար համալսարանը կարիքը ունի յաւելեալ տարածութեան, նաեւ դիւրութիւններու, որպէսզի առաւելագոյն չափով կարենայ ծառայել ուսանողութեան։

Նոր շէնքը, որ կը գտնուի Մէյ Զիատէ փողոցին վրայ, գնուած էր երեք տարի առաջ՝ համալսարանի 50-ամեակին առիթով, եւ այդ օրէն ի վեր սկսած էին հանգանակութեան աշխատանքները։

Շէնքը ունի երկու նպատակ՝ վարչական եւ ակադեմական ծրագիրներ, պիտի բաղկանայ 6 յարկերէ, ընդհանուր 1200 քառակուսի մեթր տարածութեամբ։ Մ. Եարտըմեան շեշտեց, թէ շէնքը կը յատկանշուի իր աւանդութեան հնութեամբ. 80 տարուան շինութիւն է եւ մշակոյթի նախարարութեան կողմէ դասուած է իբրեւ պատմական շէնք (դասակարգուած՝ Պէ.)։ Մ. Եարտըմեան նաեւ յայտնեց, թէ շէնքին արտաքին տեսքը պահուեցաւ նոյնը՝ ապահովելու համար իր հնութիւնը, իսկ ամբողջ շինարարութիւնը պիտի կատարուի ներքին բաժիններուն մէջ՝ ամէնէն արդիական ձեւերով։ Նախատեսուած է, որ ծրագիրը աւարտի դեկտեմբեր 2009-ին։ Յայտնենք, որ մամուլը օրին (2 ամիս առաջ) անդրադարձած էր շէնքի հիմնարկէքի արարողութեան։

Անդրադառնալով ծախսերուն՝ Եարտըմեան յայտնեց, թէ հողին գումարը յատկացուած էր Հայկազեան համալսարանի պահ դրուած գումարէն։ Ընդհանուր ծախսը կը հասնի մօտաւորապէս երկու միլիոն տոլարի՝ առանց շէնքի ներքին կահաւորումին։ Գումարին 80 առ հարիւրը գոյացած է նուիրատուութիւններէ, խոստումներէ, նաեւ՝ Միացեալ Նահանգներու «Էյ. Էմ. Էյ. Էյ.»ի եւ Հայկազեանի հոգաբարձութեան տարած հանգանակութեան աշխատանքներուն միջոցով. իսկ 20 առ հարիւրը ապահովելու համար հանգանակութիւն պիտի կատարուի Լիբանանի մէջ, որպէսզի ցոյց տրուի լիբանանցիներու եւ լիբանանահայերու բաժնեկցութիւնը այս ծրագիրին։ «Կ՚ենթադրեմ, որ շատ անձեր կ՚ուզեն ծրագրին մաս կազմել իրենց նիւթական օժանդակութեամբ, որովհետեւ այդ ձեւով ի յայտ պիտի գայ իրենց ունեցած պատասխանատուութեան ոգին Հայկազեանի նկատմամբ՝ իբրեւ միակ հայկական համալսարանը, որ կը ծառայէ հայ ժողովուրդի բոլոր զաւակներուն՝ անոնց հայթայթելով լաւագոյն ուսման մակարդակներ՝ մատչելի գիներով», հաստատեց Մ. Եարտըմեան։

Անդրադառնալով հանգանակութեան ճաշկերոյթին՝ ան յոյս յայտնեց եւ քաջալերեց, որ ամէն մարդ ներկայ գտնուի, որովհետեւ Հայկազեանը սովորութիւն չունի ճաշկերոյթներ կազմակերպելու եւ զանոնք կը վերապահէ կարեւոր ծրագիրներ իրագործելու համար։ Ան հաստատեց, թէ ճաշկերոյթին հասոյթը պիտի տրամադրուի շինարարական ֆոնտին, որ բացուած յայտարարուած էր երեք տարի առաջ՝ համալսարանի 50-ամեակին առիթով։ Գործադրուելիք գեղարուեստական յայտագիրին առնչութեամբ Եարտըմեան յայտնեց, թէ պիտի ներկայացուի հայկական ու լիբանանեան մշակոյթը արտացոլող պատշաճ յայտագիր, որ կ՚ընդգրկէ լիբանանեան հին, պատմական տարազներու ցուցադրութիւն, 16-20-րդ դարաշրջաններու ծանօթացում, Հայաստանի «Պատանի վերթիւոզներ» երաժշտական խումբի ելոյթ՝ ղեկավարութեամբ Ռուբէն Ասատրեանի։

Եզրափակելով իր խօսքը՝ Միրա Եարտըմեան յայտնեց, որ նուիրատուութիւնները սկսած են, եւ փափաքողները կրնան կապ հաստատել Հայկազեան համալսարանի հանրային կապերու գրասենեակին հետ՝ հեռաձայնելով հետեւեալ թիւերուն. 01/349230, ext. 365 եւ 03/938230։
