Joke of the week...1

Here is the LOST CHAPTER IN GENESIS....
Adam was walking around the garden of Eden feeling very lonely, so God asked him,
"What is wrong with you?"
Adam said he didn't have anyone to talk to.
God said that He was going to make Adam a companion and that it would be a woman.

He said,
"This person will gather food for you, cook for you, and when you discover clothing she'll wash it for you. She will always agree with every decision you make. She will bear your children and never ask you to get up in the middle of the night to take care of them. She will not nag you and will always be the first to admit she was wrong when you've had a disagreement. She will never have a headache and will freely give you love and passion whenever you need it.

Adam asked God, "What will a woman like this cost?"
God replied, "An arm and a leg."
Then Adam asked, "What can I get for a rib?"
The rest is history...

Elias finishes his term, and a visitor from Germany

Elias Jabbour, a graduating student at the NEST (Near East School of Theology) was assigned for the academic year of 2007-2008 to serve for 4 months with Rev. Hovannes Svajian at the pulpit of the Armenian Evangelical Emmanuel Church.
Elias will soon graduate this year with MDiv (Masters in Divinity). He is also a talented musician who plays the piano and the drums and composes beautiful music. Throughout his life, he has served in many church ministries, both in Syria and Lebanon. He is of Syriac origin and speaks very fluent Arabic, English and Armenian.
During a Sunday, we also had a very pleasant visitor with Elias, a theology student from Bonn, Germany. She is visiting Lebanon since 2007 and will stay here till Spring 2008. Ulrike, or Uli, as she likes to be called, enrolled as a student at the NEST, to learn the Arabic language and learn more about the Islamic religion.
At Emmanuel Church, she had the opportunity to visit the Sunday School classrooms, engage with the people and take part in worship, together with Armenian Lebanese families.
Uli was very surprised that she knew the music of the worship songs that were sung in Armenian. She could identify with many of the similarities found between the Armenian Evangelical Church and her Lutheran church back in Germany. Most of all, she was amazed at the cultural diversity and wealth packed in such a small country called Lebanon.

“RESPONDING TO GOD’S LOVE”

By Sarene Kushdilian

Issue #9: March 2006, CAMP AREV NEWSLETTER, USA

Throughout Scripture, God makes clear His love for us. Even when we were sinning against Him, God loved us. In response to this, the author of Hebrews rightfully asks, “What is man that you are mindful of him, or the son of man that you care for him?” (Hebrews 2:6). We are all sinners “and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). And yet, knowing this, God loved us so much that He sent His Son to die for our sins. The Bible makes it clear that if we believe, we “are justified by His grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus” (Romans 3:24).
How, then, should we respond to this knowledge? Is this something to be taken lightly? Upon understanding God’s holiness and love for His children, our lives must change! Being identified as a “Christian” makes you a follower of Christ. Therefore, our actions should reflect His. Our lives should reflect His. We must keep in mind that we are examples of Jesus. To some people, we are the only examples of Christ they see. Ultimately, the purpose of our lives is to honor and glorify Him in everything.
How awesome it is to know that our God is one who loves and cares for us. It is my hope and prayer that we live our lives dedicated to His service and to the glory of His Kingdom.

Chanitz Sunday

Sunday, 17 February, 2008 was Chanitz (Christian Endeavor) Sunday. The youth led the Church service.
The chairman, Mr. S. Ohanian, led the worship and Mr. S. Demirjian gave the sermon, while Mr. A. Karagoezian led the prayer time.
Mr. H. Gojikian and Mr. A. Torkomian collected the gifts from the church. Ms. A. Kazezian read a report about Chanitz, while Ms. S. Boyajian read a report about Badaniatz.

During the service, two young men and a young woman passed from Badaniatz to Chanitz. They are: Mr. B. Malian, Mr. H. Aintablian and Ms. Dz. Demirjian. The pastor, Rev. H. Svajian prayed for them during the service, and congratulated their passage from Badaniatz ranks to Chanitz.

"Zartonk" is going to be published again?

We still do not know for sure, but we received news that the Zartonk newspaper is reorganizing itself and getting ready to get back to its readers.

Zartonk suddenly stopped being published, beginning of 2007, for reasons not known to us.

If what we heard is for real, then we cannot but wish the best for Zartonk and to its readers.

The "Worlds Christian Endeavour Union" encourages our efforts

In their February 2008 issue of their publication, the Worlds Christian Endeavour Union in their "Asia" section mention about the Armenian Christian Endeavor Union of Syria and Lebanon being online and encourage other Christian Endeavour unions to do the same.

Here is what they write:
The Armenian Christian Endeavor Union of Syria and Lebanon can be found in Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Since everybody can write in this encyclopedia all other National Unions are encouraged to follow their example.
Your efforts have not gone in vain :)

For the record, the Wikipedia pages were created, posted and edited by Rev. V. Ekmekjian (CE Central Committee vice chairman and pastor of the Armenian Evangelical Nahadagatz (Martyr) Church, Syria) and Mr. R. Chilingirian (CE Central Committee treasurer from the Armenian Evangelical Emmanuel Church, Lebanon).

It is also worthwhile to mention here that the EMI engineers and architects found out about Kchag through Kchag's website, in communication with Mrs. M. Bakalian and Rev. S. Terzian.

Keeping our spirits high and trying not to lose our hope

Despite the difficult times and circumstances that Lebanon is going through, the youth have come to realize that they have two choices, they can either lose hope, or decide to keep their hope in the Lord, who will never leave the youth alone through these turbulences.

It is a fact that the prices have very much increased, and the youth and university students are obliged to find work, any kind of work, in order to pay for their tuition. Many are running from one job to another and studying during the weekends, in order to try to graduate and find a decent job, and at the same time stay active in their churches.
These issues are new ones that the young men and women face, who used to volunteer in churches, in social work and DVBS. Today, we cannot blame them when they leave their volunteer work because of a new job opportunity that they have found. Also, we pray that they will participate in the summer camps that will take place, despite the difficult situation.

We pray that God would help us during this difficult period and to help us keep our hope and faith in Him, and only in HIM, who will come to our aid.
