Beirut, May 11, 2011 – On May 6 & 7, the members of the Haigazian University Board of Trustees were brought together from both the United States and Lebanon to hold their annual meeting in Beirut.
During the intensive two day meetings, the Board listened to reports presented by the President, the deans and the department heads. Many issues were discussed, such as new faculty appointments, the establishment of research centers, budgetary challenges and the growing financial needs, and strategic directions for the future.
After the first day of intensive meetings, the Board members had the chance to enjoy a special dinner at Le Bristol Hotel in Hamra, where they listened to several speakers.
The Armenian Ambassador to Lebanon, H.E. Mr.Ashod Kocharian, emphasized the close relationship between Lebanon and Armenia and proudly announced the birth of the “Lebanon-Armenia Friendship Association.” He also expressed his heartfelt congratulations on the occasion of Haigazian University’s 55th anniversary.
The American Embassy, represented by the Public Affairs Officer, Mr. Ryan Gliha, expressed the United States’ continuous commitment to the future of Lebanon through the youth and education as well as the belief in the strong government. Gliha added that the United States was proud of their support of Haigazian University and its mission and announced the significant financial support through the new USAP (University Student Assistance Program) for the benefit of students who come to Haigazian from various Public Schools in the country.
The university president, Rev. Dr. Paul Haidostian, saw every board meeting as a celebration of the mission of Haigazian University and appreciated the board’s continued support. Haidostian focused on the richness of the Lebanese culture and the openness of the Haigazian campus, which managed to preserve its unique identity while embracing all the various identities that come to Haigazian.
The board members and their spouses also had the chance to enjoy an outing in KCHAG, a place that brought memories back to Haigazian graduates and helped everyone relax in the beauty and peacefulness of nature.
